The evolution of an agency: Sticky turns 5

Sticky has evolved from a traditional to digital agency over last 5 years

On 1 September 2005 I bought a small Newcastle advertising agency very much entrenched in the traditional media world. I had plans to grow and evolve the business but I never really expected that we’d look the way we do today.

Five years later Sticky is a very different business and I’m extremely proud of the changes we’ve made and the success we’ve achieved in that time.

In 2005 we were 100% traditional media focused. The agency did Television, radio and press production and media placement. We did some design work and had launched a handful of websites.  In 2010 two thirds of our business is generated from online strategies. Web design, search engine optimisation and social media drive the agency. The rest is traditional advertising.

In 2005 we were very much a Newcastle agency. All our clients were based in the Hunter Region and most of the advertising we did for them was placed here. In 2010 our client-base is truly national. We have an exciting array of clients based in Newcastle, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. We have clients focused on the USA, Europe and New Zealand.

In 2005 we were agents for the services of others, like Television and Radio networks and Newspapers. Since then we have developed a range of innovative products and services that have become nationally recognised. Our Inbound Marketing systems have been rolled out to progressive organisations around the country, while our NLYZR search engine optimisation tools have won widespread popularity and success for our clients.

It’s extremely flattering and gratifying to now be invited to comment in national media and speak at national industry events after struggling for any coverage or recognition in the early days.

But this is really only the end of the first chapter for Sticky. We’ve spent the last 5 years steadily transitioning the agency from traditional to digital and building a great team of people with a strong desire to deliver innovation and exceptional results for our clients. It hasn’t been easy, and there have been hiccups along the way, but its been a thrilling ride.

Everything is now in place for the next phase of Sticky’s (r)evolution. The next 5 years promise to be even more exciting.
