We received an anonymous comment on this post along the lines of..."Funny that this site only has a PageRank of 3 yet you are talking about SEO..."

The supplied name wasn't fit for family viewing, so I have posted the comment here and now will respond...

Yes its a fair point but also speaks to the mistaken quest for high PageRank as the solution to SEO.

We receive a lot of inquiries from businesses who have websites with high PR scores, yet are doing very poorly in search and have low traffic volumes.

PageRank is PART of the search equation, not the be-all and end-all. It also needs to be taken in the context of the actual site's purposes.

For example, this agency now runs four different marketing and advertising related sites. Each exist for different reasons and different markets.

Stickyads.com.au is mainly for the Newcastle market. It ranks extremely high in every Google search we have aimed it at. There are plenty of examples of agency sites with higher PageRank who still achieve poor search results. That's because the rest of the site isn't optimised correctly.

We have spread our links (and subsequent PageRank score) over multiple sites rather than use one site for all purposes. The result is a portfolio of sites that work extremely well in their target areas and deliver a substantial collective volume of traffic.

Each site also tops Google searches for the keywords we have targeted.

So yes, this site only has a PR of 3, but it achieve the goals that have been set for it very well.

GetSticky has been set-up to dispel some of these SEO myths and provide business owners with a clear and direct path to better web marketing and sales.
